HBW – Small Town

A fence lasts three years,
a dog lasts three fences,
a horse lasts three dogs,
and a man lasts three horses

I regret that I didn’t spend a little more time on this shot. This was one of those scenes where there was some interest present, but I wasn’t too excited about it. I ended up taking a shot for the sake of taking a shot. Looking at it later, I would have composed it differently and used a higher aperture to capture more of the fence posts in the background.

Still, I like the detail in the carved wood fence post, especially with the cracks and weathered paint, and the bokeh turned out kind of nice. So, I’ll keep it, but will probably make a return to this fence to capture it correctly.

What does HBW mean? HBW = Happy Bokeh Wednesday – a term in the Flickr community.

What is Bokeh? According to Wikipedia, Bokeh (derived from Japanese bokeaji ボケ味, “blur”) is a photographic term referring to the appearance of out-of-focus areas in an image produced by a camera lens using a shallow depth of field.

I just discovered your blog going from Portal Wisconsin to Flickr to here. Amazing work, and I really like the look of the photos displayed on this theme. It’s nice to see another photoblog from a Wisconsin artist.
