This photo challenge has gotten me more interested in lighting – mostly because I am shooting just about everything indoors. I don’t have a flash or dedicated photography lighting, so I have had to get creative.

The red background in this photo was created in photoshop then set as my desktop wallpaper on my LCD Cinema Display. I then tipped the monitor on its back and placed the dice on the screen. I also had a gooseneck lamp situated level with the dice, lighting them directly from the upper left.

There were a few throw-away shots because I would end up picking up lines in the monitor – it was a matter of the right distance, aperture and angle to get the lines to mostly disappear. I had to do a little noise reduction and de-clarification to finish the job.
