Day 20 – “Flag”
345 days to go…

Wenger, the maker of Swiss Army knives uses the Swiss flag as their logo. This photo is a macro shot of a Wenger portfolio… the swiss army knife of portfolios, as it were.

On the surface, this looks like an easy shot… a little lighting, a little composition and pack the camera up and call it a night. Below the surface was an hour or more of adjusting lights, experimenting with exposure and swearing. Lots of swearing.

Here’s the problem… the Wenger emblem. I needed to get a fair amount of lighting glare bouncing of the metal rim and cross in the middle, otherwise it all turned black. The red glossy glassy background though, bounced every bit of light right up into the lens, drowning out everything. The glare from that bit was always overpowering. You can see my attempts and failures below.
