Long Forgotten
There is a great old church on highway 14 in the town of Rutland, Wisconsin – about 15 miles south of Madison. I had driven past it many times and always wondered about its fate. It was weathered and in disrepair – obviously not in use anymore. It looked like it had just been forgotten, like the people just stopped going to church there one day and forgot about the little building.
The cemetery is the same way. Forgotten.
The gravestones are cracked and worn, some have toppled over – but there is a peace there, a peace that comes from longevity… from outliving the memories of those you once knew.
