2009 Challenge 5/365 – Window

Day five of the 2009 photo challenge… today’s topic was window. These are some of my favorite windows in Madison, so I knew as soon as I saw the topic that this was what I was going to do.

Things didn’t turn out quite as planned, however… I wanted to get dead center, up close to the wall and take a wide angle shot. The expansion crack on Lake Monona runs right down the center of the building and there was open water along the crack, so getting centered was out. There was also open water in front of the wall. So, this was as up close and centered as I felt I could safely get – especially out there in the pitch black where I couldn’t tell water from ice.

Every time the ice popped, pieces fell off the expansion crack and dropped into open water… kind of a scarry thing to here out there on the ice. So I took a couple quick shots and got back to shore.

I started taking photos more seriously this last spring experimenting with night photography, so this is kind of a return to my roots, if you will.
